The Mulhouse Utility House
Simon says ‘ My work as a licensee of Architectyourhome over the past four years has given me access to well over 200 homes, all owner occupied, almost entirely family houses. The houses I have visited generally lack a good sized family/ kitchen/ dining room and a good relationship between the inside of the house and the outside/garden.
I am convinced there is a clearly defined need for good ordinary family housing for people who are not rich - for example teachers, nurses, police and firemen - that reflects the needs of families and the realities of family life today and for the foreseeable future.
Our designs for such houses (see the enclosed drawings) – terraced or semi-detached – seem to offer the most efficient land-use possible. This arrangement reduces road construction and – given restraint in car access – will provide safe ‘play streets’. The garden and the main room will be one continuous space.
We believe that the Mulhouse Utility is a Lifetime Home, ‘future proofed’ and Eco-friendly: the occupier decides on the location of the partitions and therefore the size and description of the bedrooms/ studies/ workrooms/storage: flexibility enables adaptability.
We are certain that these houses will offer excellent value for money and will be sound investment in the family’s future and wellbeing: not only for the first occupier, but for every subsequent owner/ occupier’.
